For authors

The Journal accepts submissions of previously unpublished papers and popular materials for the following:

  • A popular section Sign Language and the Community – popular materials up to 5 pages or 10,000 characters (incl. spaces). Materials will be published after editor review and editing.
  • Research section with publication on these or related topics: Bulgarian Sign Language and other sign languages, deafness, bilingualism, communication and socialisation, sign language interpreting, deaf education – research papers should be up to 30 pages or 60,000 characters (incl. spaces). Materials will undergo blind peer review.
  • Translation section including translations into Bulgarian of papers by leading researchers in the field.

Publishing in the journal observes the following rules:

  1. Each paper or material should be written in either Bulgarian or English, clearly and understandable for the specialised audience.
  2. Each publication should include an abstract in both languages – Bulgarian and English. If the author does not know one of the languages, the editors will provide support for translation of abstracts.
  3. Research publications are first submitted in anonymous format (with no information about authors and no explicit self-citations) to undergo blind peer review.
  4. We will decline publication of materials which use rude and offensive language, unjustified critics or discrediting statements, hateful language, personal attacks, views supporting discrimination, unlawful practices or disregarding good academic communication standards.
  5. The decision for accepting or declining a material belongs to the editorial board and is final. The decision regarding research publications is based on the blind review(s). Authors have the right to re-submit a declined materials for new consideration after revisions.
  6. Materials will be published under Creative Commons Attribution-NoDerivatives 4.0 International (CC BY-ND 4.0) license. Submitting a material for publication shows that you agree to the terms and conditions of the license for free access of the text with no derivatives allowed and after suitable citation is provided.
